Presented by Allen Viehmeyer
One of the best early Schwenkfelder historians, Hoffmann was finely attuned to the circumstances and fate of his fellow Schwenkfelders in Silesia during the time of the Jesuit mission; their religious life in Saxony; and the first decade in America. Attached to the Report addressed to his adult children are nine letters that he wrote to and received from the Pennsylvania Schwenkfelder community between 1741 and 1753 concerning community cohesion, worship, and doctrine. This lecture will present his view of Schwenkfelder religious life in Silesia, Saxony, and Pennsylvania.
