Brown Bag: The Eucharist and the Stillstand from Caspar Schwenckfeld and the Migration: Why Early Schwenkfelders Did Not Practice Communion

  • Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center 105 Seminary St Pennsburg United States (map)

This is a free lecture which is available in-person and on Zoom. To register or to receive the Zoom link, call 215-679-3103 or email info@schwenkfelder.org.

Presented by Dr. Drake Williams

This brown bag lunch program will explore reasons why Schwenckfeld encouraged the non-observance of the Eucharist from some of his final written thoughts on the matter. It will draw on a previously untranslated treatise from the Corpus Schwenkfeldianorum that Caspar Schwenckfeld wrote in August 1561, which was only a few months before his death. It will then proceed to consider how Schwenckfeld’s thoughts impacted George Weiss, the leader of the Schwenkfelders in the early 1700’s, as he wrote about the Eucharist in his catechism.
