Friends Program: Mouns Jones and the Schuylkill Valley Indian Trade

President Brad Kissum and volunteer Larry Ward of the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County will share the very old and fascinating history of the Mouns Jones House, considered  the oldest documented dwelling in Berks County. It was built in 1716 by Mounce and Ingabor Jones along the Schuylkill River in what is today Douglasville. In particular, they will discuss Jones’s relationship with the Native Americans, with whom he was a known confidant. His property also was the site of an encampment of the Indians of the Five Nations in May 1712. The Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County has been restoring the property since its acquisition in 1965.
