Transcribing and Translating 18th & 19th Century German Documents

Join Allen Viehmeyer of the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center for this unique opportunity to learn how to transcribe and translate 18th and 19th century German manuscripts. Taught over four Saturdays, January 14 through February 4, from 10:00am to noon each day, participants will use PDFs of authentic 18th and 19th century German-American as well as German documents from the Heritage Center Archives for transcription and translation. Participants may submit their own documents (300 words maximum) for use by all students in workshop. Some knowledge of German grammar and German cursive handwriting is a pre-requisite. For the 8 hours of instruction, the $200 fee is due no later than December 16, 2022. Register by email to allen@schwenkfelder.org. Pay by here or send check to the Heritage Center at 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg PA 18073. For questions or more information, call Allen at 215-679-3103 or email allen@schwenkfelder.org.
